Steffan Triplett is a Black, queer writer born and raised in southwest Missouri. He is the author of the hybrid memoir Bad Forecast (Essay Press, 2024) and the author of Constraints (New Michigan Press/DIAGRAM, 2024), a chapbook of essays. Steffan is the Managing Director for the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics (CAAPP) at the University of Pittsburgh where he is a Teaching Associate Professor.
Triplett’s nonfiction has been name “Notable” in Best American Essays, and his essays and criticism have appeared in Vulture, Vox, Slate, Longreads, Literary Hub, Electric Literature, and It Came From the Closet: Queer Reflections on Horror. His poetry has been published in the Poetry Project Newsletter, Foglifter, Obsidian, Poetry Daily, Revisiting the Elegy in the Black Lives Matter Era (Routledge, 2019) and Nepantla: An Anthology Dedicated to Queer Poets of Color (Nightboat, 2018). He was previously an Essays Editor at The Offing.
Triplett was an inaugural Outpost Fellow, a National Book Critics Circle’s Emerging Critics Fellow, and has received fellowships and support from Cave Canem, Lambda Literary, Callaloo, the Blue Mountain Center, and Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh.
